When you remove the lens the camera thinks the aperture is entirely open, hence F00. The actual aperture is still determined by the lens, it's just not registered by the camera.

That's the greatest explanation I've read yet. Thanks. Everyone thing else I've read about it just got too technical.

hey chonh do you anything about those DIY extension tubes with the lens on the end? whats the purpose of that?
