You can get membranes that are OK with chlorine in the water, in fact they need it in order not to rot.

What did you use with your Tigers?

I use to work for the glenmore WTP as a operator. During spring runoff the concentrations are upped considerably. ALum for one is upped quite a bit, something to do with floc. They were still using chlorine back when i worked there and that was also bumped up in the spring. Treating Calgarys water has its issues, ive just been removed for so long that I cant remember them. That was just just the start of my water treatment career. Moved onto oilsands water treatment ahhaha not exactly the same

rainwater and well water mixed..., and lots of water changes. I didn't need R/O

Care to elaborate some more on your water practices? Did you test TDS #s?

How did you do waterchanges? Constant drips or a couple times a week?

You will find tds before and after a HMA will have not much difference, tds meter is only useful on a RO system

I was more interested in hma compared to tank. My friend has the same hma as me on his discus tank (he keeps wilds) and he measures a lower tds out of the hma than out of the tap.

Surely the tds would drop if the hma is removing something?

it will remove around 10 points unlike with RO which reject around 90% of source water, the small amount the HMA removes is nothing to be of concern. My tds in tank is always around 250 and my tds I'm adding to the tank is around 200. I always check my tds in the tank to get an idea how much to drip into my tank. I need to drip 50% two days in a row to get my tds in the tank close my source RO water.
