I have used Mag 5, 12, and 18. Quiet one 3000, 4000, 6000, 9000, and 14000.

The Quiet one 9000 sucks. They are super loud. All of the others are good pumps and they each have their use.

What "kind" of noise do the 9000s make? I'm getting ready to install on this weekend. As long as it's not a grinding obnoxious noise I don't care lol

I have a sequence 750 on my 270 and a rio 2500 on my 220. The sequence is powerful and relatively quiet for its size. The rio is just annoying because it doesn't have any power. It is just temporary in my tank and I am in the market for another.

It is like a mix of high and low frequency vibrations/resonance. I bought two of them for my tank, tried the first one and found that it was louder than my 14000. I thought it was broke, so I installed the second one and found that they both made the same racket.

Maybe with a different impeller.

Ok, I doubt if I'll be able to hear it over the "whir" of my little giant.

sequence dart. very quiet, low watt draw, and very powerful.

There are pro's and con's with either IMO.

Internals are easier to plumb, less chance of leaks, tend to wear out quicker, and warm the water.

Externals require more plumbing (aka chances for leaks), but do not add heat to water, and are stronger and longer lasting.

I don't think any internal pump can compete with Eheim. Every other brand I've ever used has either completely failed (e.g. Rio) or became quite loud (e.g. Mag-Drive). It may take several months or even a year or two, but the performance issues never come at a good time! I've never had an Eheim fail though.

Many externals add heat also (especially the quieter models as they have no cooling fan). Also, I wouldn't really worry about leaks if you plumb things correctly. I agree that the Dart is a great pump for large tanks.

the quiet one 9000 is seriously not quiet. It's powerful as hell, but makes a fair amount of noise. Mine is in my fish room so I don't care, but it does make a decent amount of racket.
