I might be a little weird, my fish are more then pets i think of them as friends. They have names and i talk to them on a regular basis. When one died i was depressed for a week i even went through a grieving period. Lost a dog last year and I still get tears in my eyes when i think about him.

My fish are all 3.

I consider them my pets and I like their personalities.
I think the tank looks sweet and adds a good touch to my room.
I study their behavior.

This is a great question
I chose pets but really all 3

yeah, I realized I should have added other options like all of the above or none of the above, or other, or both a and b or both a and c or both b and c  but i wanted a straight answer, but I understand where you're coming from. I feel like I'm a bit of each, but predominately they're my pets, even though I don't give them names (I feel like if I give them names I'll get too attached and since I'm still an 'intermediate' fishkeeper and losing fish is still a possibility, though luckily not too often anymore)

I keep fish as a hobby because I enjoy having them around, but it is mainly an aesthetic thing, like living art . . . I definitely take care of them, and I'm disappointed when one dies (especially if its my fault), but they don't even come close to being "pets" in the same sense as our cats, or the dog I had when I was a kid . . .

I guess for me an outlet. I don't name them but if say my pleco croaked I would be upset. Mainly because it cost me $405 with shipping and can't be found at the size it is. Also is settled in in his tank. I almost lost him from disease since it is wild caught.

all of the above.. for pretty much all of the reasons given, some fish I bond more with. prolly why I've gotten more into the larger predetory types over the years. some I think just look nice in that set-up. some are just fascinateing to watch and study behavior for.
