Hi all,
One of my Rhaphs has developed a thyroid tumor, info on the net says I should treat with I2 and KI solution. The only thing close to this is some sea salt with KIO3 additives meant for human consumption. I'm not really sure if I should use this, there are rays in the tank. Might have to transfer him to the hospital tank.
So my question is, do you guys think KIO3 will do good to my Rhaph? Or is there any other method of healing a fish with a thyroid tumor? Thank you!

wow i have no clue

i would deff transfer to a different tank if your gonna try anything.

you mean when they get that lump in lower jaw/throat? I'd be careful with chemical medications, payara are thin skinned

Right, I'm going to tranfer him to a smaller tank to do this. Fingers crossed!
Tough day for me, one of my 5 rhaphs jumped to the other side of the divider and got torn into peices by the rays, literally! If only they were a bit more clever...

Yup, two lumps infact.

One of the two pressurized filters I have bursted, currently running on one, water quality is not at it's best. That's why all sorts of wierd stuff is happening to my fish.:(

But I would'nt think that the water quality would deteriorate so quickly, bump up your water changes.

for some reason rhaphs are prone to this. Happened to a couple of mine which stopped eating and died. i always assumed it had damaged itself somehow.

If it is some kind of diesese/illness, I'd keep it's stress levels at minimum, bring up water quality and make sure temps are on highside.

not convinced the meds would do any good but really don't know for certain. if ur sure it's thyroid, there should be a product spec. for this? just check the bottle for warnings against use for characins.

Do you have any pics? I had issues with the throat of one of mine but it appeared to have damaged something by eating too big of a feeder. Something broke or dislocated. Whatever had happened did heal though after a few months.
