Isla Taboga Panama via Milwaukee
They are from fast flowing waters of the Atlantic slope of Mexico, and Guatemala, as the genus name Rheoheros implies.
They require much heavier flow than most aquarists use, and often die of maladies if the oxygen and flow requirements are not provided.
When I had them (just before moving to Panama) I used an 1800gph pump in the sump of their 6 ft tank, and added a powerhead to the tank to provide even more curent.
I used rheophillic wild type swordtails as dithers.

How's it going with these guys? I've recently come across these and the coeruleus and really think they'd be an interesting fish to keep. Very glad to these here
I still have the remaining 4. They seem to be doing well. 2 are growing faster and 2 not so fast, but are making progress.
I have them in my 300g 8 footer now. They're are some wild type swordtails, common species silver dollars, a young pair of T.macculippinis, 2 Loricariidae.

I have a Jebao Crossflow style Gyre pump on one side that is supposedly rated at 10k gph, however I believe it's not quite that high. On the opposing side, i have 2 very large powerheads (see photo in above comment) that are rated at 4800 gph. They do move some water and also give great gas exchange as they are aimed slightly towards the surface. I do believe you're 100% correct about water quality and o2 levels. Thanks for your time and input. It is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for update Justin. Excellent setup of rthese guys you have. I've only recently come to one of these and have been looking into them. I don't have the equipment to keep them propey ATM but am working towards it slowly but surely.

Also the wild swords are beautiful. Ive found myself circling back around to a lot fish I've never kept because they were "basic/common" species readily available. I always wanted the rarest or most exotic. Here I am years in and there's still several fish that must ppl start with that I've never kept.

The fish in the 300 compliment each other nicely.

Completely off subject:
Do you still have the umbees? Surely lol.
I'd been hearing your name for some time now before running across you here.
Most umbee conversations have ended with someone telling me to get with Justin Holland. And thats an awesome thing ?

Sad to say, i had to euthanize him about 6-7 months ago. Not exactly sure what it was that had happened, but he just stopped eating altogether. I tried so many methods of treatment to bring him around, with no positive effects. Once i noticed he was just withering away, I decided i didn't want to wait any longer. I kept his female for about 3 more months and sold her off.

Thanks for the mention Theos.dad Theos.dad

Man I hate to hear that. Ive done some research since my last post and figured it out. That's a tough go brother and I'm sorry bring up old stuff. Losing some fish are like losing a person. You definitely raised up a legend!

Some update shots of the lentiginosus. They seem to have a very slow growth rate at this point. Pictured is 2 of the 4 remaining fish. All 4 are doing very well and seem to have found their places amongst the other species in the 300g.
