do they grow? :)

With good filtration, regular feedings, regular water changes etc what kind of growth can I expect from a 2 inch Rhom?

Cheers.

5-6" in the first year and verrrrrry slow like .5" a year after that.

Thanks for the info Snake eyes. Do you happen to know which Serrasalmus species are the fastest growing?

I have never owned a Serra and I'm curious to, BUT - I like growing fish from juveniles, and thus like fairly fast growing fish :D

I have no clue, I was wanting a rhom for quite a while so I did a lot of reading on p-fury about them.

Most Serrasalmus grown up to 5-6" with the first year... and every 1" per year after that with proper care.

Your serra will need somewhere between 40 and 75 gallons, and all are solitary display specimens.

I want to get a black rhom.... ^_^

most serras grow according to the same pattern so..

if you want it to grow fast i suggest for example on a 100g

2 fx5 filters (or large sump),a drip system, heavily planted for lots of oxygen, pleanty of space per fish, good food (variety of fillets, pellets...)

the better conditions you have the faster they grow

I would have thought 2 FX5s on a 100g would simply be too much water movement. Like a whirlpool.

My first tank is going to be a predatory comm. - which is really what I love. When I setup a second tank I'll try a Serra for the first time. Probably a Manueli, they are beautiful and strange.

RBPs come from a river originally, so this would be close to re-creating their natural habitat....plus, no need for a power head!! lol

I know. And I agree that piranhas need current, HOWEVER - 2 FX5s on a 100 gallon would be an unnaturally high amount of water movement imo. Two eheim 2217's would do the job.

I like to have a powerhead anyway.

Incidentally, I would not advise a high current for small piranhas. In the wild they seem to inhabit very still parts of the amazon until they are a good few inches long.

And in my experience, baby Pygos are more comfortable with less current.
