like the title, I have a 7" rhom who is still acting normal, just hasnt eaten in a couple of days. Im feeding him frozen shrimp and all the water params are good. Any ideas? do piranhas go through a phase of not eating every once in a while?

what do you mean by params are good? what are your params? what's the temp?

i normally wouldn't worry too much about a fish not eating for a day or two, but if it eats every day and all of a sudden doesn't accept food, it can be worthwhile to look into it.

is it possible he's just tired of the food? have you tried varying the diet? have you been feeding live and are now trying to feed frozen?

7" Would it be possible he's just getting to that stage of development where he starts eating less frequently?

What about a powerhead to make him burn calories?

Got a powerhead, the temp is 80, Ive been feeding him frozen shrimp for 5 months now...

well, if your params are good and nothing else has changed, i would give him a couple more days before you start to worry... maybe try feeding something else in the meantime

my 8" rhom stopped eating for a 1 week for no reason, then it start back up again.
longest was my 7" one, was eating like a pig then didn't eat for almost a month then start eating again. wait for few more days see if it start eating again. you can also try something else. i found all of my fish loves fish fillet/smelt better than shrimp.

Mine before I had always ate live food since i owned for anout a month i have now gotten to eat raw nightcrawlers, raw shrimp and tilipia filet just starting as well.

Where can I get smelt please? and is there anykind u recomend?

I figure if he is eating nightcrawlers, shrimp and tilipia smelt would be another good thing to give more variety.

Don't offer any food for a week or two.

+1 on varying the diet some.
My serras two favorites are shrimp and silversides. Those are his foods he won't let touch the bottom. But I'm constantly offering many different things. Squid, catfish, tilapia, earthworms, beefheart, ect. I've even tried venison a few times...

I like to offer them some garlic extract when they go on hunger strikes or any odd thing occurs. I sware by that stuff!!!! Just becareful and don't get any on you. I think it is good for them overall. Like anti parasite, appetite, ect. All natural too!!

You can usually notice a difference right 10 sec or less after you put drops in. I had a Mantis shrimp you use to get balistic when I would put it in. I think most rhoms are a perfect canidate for this.
