Can i get more info about your previous experiment? How big were they? How big was the tank? Planted?

How big is the tank in your current experiment?
The last time the piranhas were small. The Black rhoms where 3" to 4" and the red belly about 4". The tank was only a 4' 45 gallon if I remember correct as it was about 14yrs ago. It wasn't planted and had caves constructed from slate. The new experiment is in a 180 gallon and the Rhoms are 8 1/2" and 6" and the Reds are 6". It's been about 18 days and just a couple of reds have bit fins and no deaths. Rhoms have their fins intact. The tank is heavily decorated with 3 caves. They are currently all eating smelts.

You can't see the other 5 Red belly as they are in and behind the log in the middle of the tank.

that looks cool but too expensive for me to try.

very nice looking rhom you got in the last picture.
what are those goldfish doing in the tank? anyway, any chance of feeding video? wanna see how they all feed together.

Tank n setup look awesome!! I have mixed feelings about caves verse open tank(both have advantages n disadvantages)but it seems to be working fine with the caves.so have the rhoms staked out both ends of the tank with rbp in middle? Do the rbp stay grouped up?best of luck to ya Tman!

I drop 7 -10 smelts in and they are gone in about 2 min. Down the road I will try a video.

So they all just hang in their seperate "caves"? Do they eat together or take turns?
The reds usually eat together when I throw smelts in the middle and then I throw a smelt on each side of the tank and the rhoms grab them.

The reds stay grouped together pretty much with a couple cruising to different spots now and then. Rhoms pretty much stay on the ends but sometimes the smallest one will just sit outside the cave of the bigger one. This saying may be why!! "keep your friends close and your enemies closer". LOL LOL
