Richardhmc - overflows

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You don't have to have the ball valve because the flow rate is really low. If you are going to have a long run of hose, then the ball valve would help control gurgling. I'd put the ball valve at the end of the run though.

I deleted my pm to Richard that had the flow rate. He may have the flow rate. His wet/dry will be next to his tank so he had to use this design. It will not flow as well as the uglier type will flow because the tee is up at the surface. The farther toward the bottom of the tank you can make the tee, the better the overflow will perform. This design requires the tee to be high because the tank will drian to the level of the tee. It keeps the works outside of the tank which looks nice.

thanks for the info. Just gotta wait for richard to come on mfk and hopefully he can quote you on the flow rate.

Hey thanks a bunch.. just gotta wait for "snail mail" to come haha.
ill reply back when ive got em

that thing looks useless with all those different size pipes and ball valve for what reason. there should be a loop that goes down then back up on the outside of the tank.

Think it through man, think it through. :D

It isn't what you are use to seeing, but it will do what Richard is looking for.

I understand the pm now. These work without boxes. The 1.5 inch pipe with the tee goes on the outside of the tank. Then put the one that is U shaped upside down in the tank and in the 1.5 inch pipe. Add check valves to the little holes in the U shaped pipe. Run a one inch hose from each to your filter. Then fill the 1.5 inch pipes with water and suck the air out of the U shaped pipe. The flow will start when the water in the U shaped pipe reaches the top. You can use a piece of air line attached to the check valve so you don't have to drink fish water.
You may want to refer to the pictures that I posted for a visual of how they should be set up. Let me know if you have any questions.

I know where the confusion about the boxes came in to play. When I said I had a box that was perfect for them, I was talking about the one to ship them in. I test fit it with one overflow but the two of them wouldn't both fit. So I made a box for them. Ya gotta laugh about that one.

Anyway, you have a highly coveted design that sucks poo off of the bottom of the tank. Btw, if I made box style overflows for you, they wouldn't have been free.:D

Richard, this is a drip tray. It does the mechanical filtration before the water goes into the wet/dry and it also spreads out the water over the bio-media.
