Monday before bed I plugged in my phone saw the charging icon and saw the charging light after it went to sleep and awoke Tuesday morning to have the battery at the same level as I left it.

Tuesday same return but in the middle of the night I let the dogs out checked the progress and saw no charging had taken place so I moved the phone to a second charger but no charging to place there either.

Both days I got a full charge in my car and today my wife successfully charged her phone on my home charger.

Any theories as to why my home chargers will charge one phone but not and why my phone will charge in my car but not my home?

Are they the exact same phone?

Negative, she has a s2 and I have a s3. My home chargers are an aftermarket Motorola and an old BlackBerry, both have worked for several months with my phone.

car chargers charge allot faster and hotter than wall or pc charging on USB, my though is your battery is wearing out. how olds the phone? batteries only good for so many charges before they start going tits up. also using the wrong charger even if it works will kill your battery.

Did you use same outlets?

Try different outlets

If outlets are fine and phone charges with car charger, then it's your chargers. Whether it's going bad or not the right one for the phone, the issue is with the charger. Try charging your phone with same charger at work to see if you get same results

That's my process of elimination

Battery is less than 6 months old, phone is 1 almost 1.5 years old. I am using an extended life Samsung battery, will try and locate the stock battery tomorrow and test it.

One charger is in the bathroom and the other is is the livin room so different outlets as well as circuits.

Well had a problem once my phone didn't charge overnite. Found that my charger was bad they do go bad. Its possible you got 2 bad chargers one is going bad working on and off and just happen to work when your wife used it.

That's plausible but now there is a new twist.

Last night I powered of the phone before charging and when I awoke the phone said 100% charged but when I powered it on I was actually at 38%.

it may be your phone. but if it's happening to both you and your wife's phone then that is not likely the case

I still say it's a charger issue

When mine was doing that it was a bad battery. Would set fully charged and shut off as soon as I started using it.
