Ridiculous.

I would also be remiss if I left out plants like dieffenbachi, and Arum, that contain oxilates that are toxic to cats and dogs, but fish instinctualy avoid.

I even have a mni-pineapple propped up on the back of the tank.

Hey Duanes, how long has that mini pineapple been growing with its roots fully immersed in water? I have one in a pot and wouldn’t mind throwing it in the sump.

Interesting! Are you just placing the dieffenbachia and papyrus roots in the water like with pothos? I tried pothos but it didn’t grow much. Thinking of trying something stronger to help with nitrates. Has anyone tried lucky bamboo?

Yes both the Dieffeenbachia, and Papyrus are placed bare root (dangling) from the waters surface, or o the case of Papyrus (Laying in the floor of the sump).
The pineapple dangles over a floating log.

By thhhe way.
The largest Dieffenbachia doesn't get direct sunlight, it is situated inder a roof.
The mangrove gets about 6 hours of unfiltered dirct sun, the rest of the day, that same roof shades it after noon.
I tried mangrove under the roof, it did;t take.
That said, I don't use any artificial light, once the sun goes down, the tank and sump, are in the dark.

Here in Panama, the insects come out with a vengeance after dark.
