Hey all, Jus been snoopin around massachusetts native snakes... a few years ago I caught a Diadophis Punctatus (ringneck snake), at night. I let him go so it could heal after my cat attacked it. After reading up on it, They seem like a nice native snake to keep. not endangered, relatively small size, good temperment,.. I was wondering if any1 knows where I can get one? theyre pretty hard to come by, I've only seen 1 in my life.
heres a link so you can all check up on it

:D

i tried keeping a few but i could never get them to eat, so i released them. i have read that they are hard to keep, and i have never seen one in a shop for sale. good luck if you get your hands on another.

I agree, they are somewhat of a specialist when it comes to their food requirements. Not a good snake for a pet if you ask me. I've kept them briefly and they never ate for me.

Alright... thanks for your wise input, guys. I guess i will leave ringnecks alone, altho they are good looking snakes. wish it was easier to care for them, but i dont want to get a snake and have it not eat. that would be cruel

We keep them at the nature center I work at. He lives with a brown snake, worm snake, baby box turtle, and baby toad. They eat all the this n' thats we get and thrive of them.

He can be a pain in the butt though sometimes, and they are a thousand times worse than garters. They only get like a foot, so they can be delicate even when thrashing like all hell has broken loose.

what do you mean? are they aggressive, scared easily, hate people? When I handled a ringneck it didnt mind, was prolly in shock from my cat playing with it. I'd love to hear more about their temper and behavior.

I've kept a few ringnecks. They weren't bitey, but they didn't like to be handled. I got musked on a few times. As I recall, they ate earthworms dug from the compost heap. This was a long time ago though, so I could remember it incorrectly.
