Here's my sub-adult Rio Tumbes Peruvian Festae from Dan "The Man" at COA. I guess Ive had him close to a year. This fish is only 6.5 to 7 inches and has OUTSTANDING color coming in. This was the alpha male out of my batch of 10 and I have the alpha female tucked away too. I cant wait until he grows up a bit more! We had the pleasure of hanging out and chatting w/ Dan and his wife at ACA. They are some of the nicest people you will ever meet! Thanks again Dan, this was what I was looking for!
 
Thats a nice lookin tumbes male. Great spangles on him too. I havent seen many tumbes males with nice spangles like that.

but dO we have to sit down to talk to him though? I usually walk around when I talk about fish..

Anyways, nice male.. I have a female 4.5" that is yellow/green/orange and very thick.

I highly doubt the diet has anything to do with the amount of spangles a certain fish has. I believe that has more to do with mom.and dad;) I do believe the healthy varied diet along with great water quality will help bring out those qualities:) I recently sent umbeeking a festae from my esmeraldes pair with just as many spangles . I suspected male and hoped female lol he just sent me some updates a couple days ago and its a female!!!

I'm hiding out a little Peruvian female too, just starting to color up at 3 inches or so. My other pair 2 just spawned again Monday while we did water changes, they never stop. My Pair 1 are being kept divided for a while, I'm trying to fatten female back up. She always loses weight after spawning and that male tends to bully her a bit an hogs al the food when she guards eggs/fry.
