RIP Congi

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How did he got out??

Don't know what exactly but there's two things that could have caused it. I used to have 2 light fixtures on top of the eggcrate that would weigh down both sides. I took one fixture off to make it low light and moved the remaining fixture to the middle. I also keep a fan on the eggcrate to cool the tank down in the summer but I took it off for a day. These two things left the outer sides of the eggcrate not weighed down. As it came up for air it probably went too hard and jumped out.

Sorry for the loss, it's apart of the hobby sadly

Thanks. Lesson learned for sure.

Sorry man this does suck. I say jump right back on the horse. Treat yourself to a new one, it'll make ya feel better

It's like the family dog approach... Get a new puppy to help the kids get over it :D

But seriously, probably not a bad idea, dont let one tragedy get the best of you, just make some countermeasures and take the knowledge you've gained to provide an even better home to your existing and future polys :)

I do know how you feel. So sorry for your loss. I had a koliba lap for basically a weekend and it jumped. This was out a glass lid covered tank! Granted the top was the thinner glass type but I would have never guessed it could pop the lid to get out. Was a pretty big blow to my confidence and I was pretty much done. A buddy of mine (jaws) helped me through it and encouraged me to not be discouraged and get another poly. I followed his advice, couldnt look at another koliba at the time but got a few different poly. So the 'get back on the horse' worked for me.

I'm getting over it now. Still sucks but nothing I can do about it.

Not a bad idea, but I probably won't buy another poly for a while. Unless I find an amazing deal. I'll probably continue my search for some tankmates and maybe that'll do the trick.

Wow through even glass, these guys have got some force behind them. I'll follow yalls advice and get back on the horse. Thanks for all the words of encouragement everyone.

Yep, I heard they could be escape artists so I even had the plastic strip on the back of the glass top tight to the filter tubes and everything. No normal fish would have got out... but the 13" koliba made it out

My current tanks have the thicker glass tops and I added a couple rocks as weight. Since the tank and fish are bigger I guess they could build up some speed and momentum for sure.

So what will be your back on the horse poly?

Won't be a poly. Have plans to pick up a nandus nandus (Asian leaf fish) tomorrow.
