RIP Deebo, now what do i do??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sorry for your loss,

also a jag will be fine, they get to around 15" on average but there are some truly monstrous males out there. I guess it depends on genetics. if you get yourself a female then you could not have to worry about it getting huge. I had a jag that I gave to my old LFS at about 5" until I moved it was still there at about 13" and she lived with a bunch of gourami's and a pair of severums and was really quite peaceful.

also Synspilum also get 15" fully grown so either way you will have a big interesting fish in the tank. I personally would go with a jag. and for the record Motas, Freddies and Loiselli get much smaller around 9"-12" on average

I like the idea of rescuing a full grown O from your lfs but at the same time I can understand the idea of shying away from an O after a loss like this myself.

I like cichlid_obsessed92's suggestion for a Texas Cichlid, I recently (a few months ago) picked one of these up and she has a great personality and looks awesome as well.

Have you considered doing a bio-type or even themed tank?

As far as fish were concerned if you know me then you know I'd say to do an SA/CA Cichlid themed tank, minus your tinfoil barb your already there

For this setup another O would of course fit the bill but I would also suggest a few other like a: Nicaraguan, Blue Acara, True parrot (Hoplarchus psittacus) or maybe even one of the Vieja Species as mentioned above, I'd do a little reading and look into a calmer of the bunch. :)

These suggestions are of course just the tip of the iceberg, just wanted to throw a few of my favorites out there :D

Sorry to hear about your loss and good luck with whatever direction you decide to take.

BTW... your avatar scares me, lol

Sorry for the loss never fun to lose a pet =/

If you want something other than an O' I think a Jag would be fine but I like the vieja idea...

I agree with others if you love Oscars that much you should check you LFS and CL...always atleast one or two on my local CL.

haha, yeah, sorry. keep needing to change that.

WOW, I didn't think so many people would recommend adopting a grown Oscar from the LFS that needs a home! I gotta admit, that makes me happy. I went expecting to pick up a Jag, but they had 8 teenage/fullgrown Oscars there that needed homes! I couldn't say no, so I found the healthiest looking specimen and brought him home. :D

I'm so glad I did! I'm an Oscar freak forever I think. Here's to hoping he lives a long long time. I named him Ludo. (after the monster in Labyrinth)

lol, it took me a second to get that. I have a sense of humor, and that made me laugh. RIP Deebo, you awesome jerk you.
