Today my 8-9 year old goldfish passed, at 11 inches and close to a pound. I wish I could accomadate it better with a pond, but it was never possible but still I think 9 years is a good amount for a goldfish won at a carnival game that some how survived a 4 hour car trip in a plastic bag. It's sad but I have learned not to get too attatched to fish. Anyways, this opens up a tank for me, 29g biocube, I know it was small for a 11 inch fish but I couldn't do much better, and frankly never expected it to get that big and live that long. Any suggestions of what would be good in this set up?

Eventhough your tank size was small apparrently you were doing something right to get a fish to grow to that size and live that long!!! As far as any suggestions, it all depends on what you like. A 29 gallon would be great as a planted if that is up your alley.

Sorry for your loss, I've got 1 aged about 12 in my pond but she's getting old now & not sure how much longer we've got from her, hoping she makes it through the winter.
I've got a 25G planted with cory's 15 cardinal tetra's, 1 ram (1 died over night ) 2 otto's & BN cat's it's a nice calm tank & the cardinals look great shouling

Sorry for your loss. No many people realize it bu those carnival game fish do have potential and can grow into great fish.

With a 29 gallon some options include a planted tank with community fish, or a tank with some cool oddball, such as a African Butterfly Fish or a Crocodile fish.

sorry for your loss, a cousin of mine had 2 that live close to if not longer thrn yours. i was young, but i remeber them well as ive always been intok fish/aquariums...they were named Fred and Barney lol...as for your new plans with the 29g, it all depends on what you are into, any clues?

I have the community tank, have CA cichlids, have african odd balls, I have planted beta tanks, I wanted to try something like brackish, or maybe try to order 2-3 pairs of wild caught columbian rams, and try to breed them in a planted tank with maybe some tetra etc, that would be ideal so if any one knows a site with this, lemme know.

With that size for brackish you could do a figure 8 puffer or a goby. Other than that most brackish would get too big for that size tank. I have never had much luck with rams but that would be a nice tank with your description.

I have some about 8 inches and only 3 years old right now in my 55g. They are going in a outdoor pond this summer though. You must have been pretty good to get it to live that long.

Just a recommendation when you get new stock, first drain the tank and clean it well. Then let it cycle before getting new fish. Goldfish need water that is way different then tropical fish if you go with tropicals so it's best to start the water over.
