I'm terribly upset by this and he/she died actually on Sunday. Kitty's the reason why I bugged my husband for 6 months years ago for the 265g...we are in the process of upgrading too for both cats. My profile pics been the same since I joined here...I am truly bummed. I can't believe a female (yes, I"m a woman) would be so upset over a catfish, but I was really attached to him. He was handfed and really tame. I got him as a pup and was real excited the day I brought him home...Ugh...I had hubby bury him in the backyard. Couldn't throw him out in the trash, as silly as that sounds. My kids got upset when I had to tell them too. But, that's why we have critters, to teach them the lesson of life and death.

Achara's are an awesome catfish...I definitely learned a lot. Someday I will have another, when I'm ready. I've an achara x tsn hybrid now that I've had for a few years so at least I get to watch this one grow. I still have the other 'monsters' growing, but kitty was my baby...my first...

:( Sorry for your loss.. and as another female keeper.. I think it's a woman thing.. we "generally" get more attached to our pets then the guys do ( not to say they don't! Must be our Estrogen poisoning ;) ) But its like losing a child sometimes when this happens. I'de have buried her too.. when I lost my fire eels a few years ago It hit me really hard... still gets me misty eyed as they where my intro to "monster" fish so def understand where your coming from. I must say I am jealous of your hybrid! our tsn/rtc hybrid the bigger he/she gets the more fond I grow... and the more I debate if the day ever comes when my cats start trying to eat my gar which will go.. I've only had him/her less then a year.. can't imagine the bond that can be developed over years.

Thanks, I just realized that my avatar is of my rtc and my kitty when they were acclimating...my profile pic is of kitty and his "kids" (other threads of that). Kitty ate SO many fish over the years. I'd yell at him through the glass, lol. Oh, how I would yell. He'd eat $150 fish!!! One fish in one night that cost that much!!!! I wanted to wack his fin with the net. I was hoping to breed him and the rtc when we upgraded. Now, the 265g is all the rtc. I don't want it anymore. I can't look at it honestly...My hubby knows it. I will tend to the 125g that I have the giraffe and achara x tsn hybrid in and the 75g in with the stingray in, and the smaller tanks, but not "kitty's" tank. Strange how one fish can semi-take you out of the hobby.

Much older pic of kitty w/his "kids". We put his "kids" in a different tank once the rtc went into kitty's tank as we knew the rtc would eat the kids. Kitty and the "kids" lived like that for 2 years I believe, at least for 1 1/2...it's on my older threads. But, here's a pic for those who don't remember me posting about him as I've been busy w/school as I'm finishing up next month (go figure). Guess those hotdogs we fed him in the beginning caught up to him finally...

You surely have all our sympathies. I think and hope you will grieve through it and come out stronger. The mentioned lessons for kids apply to adults too.
