Just lost one of my very first fish tonight....my big red O, she was 7 years old. She lost her mate of 5 years around a year ago and she hasn't been the same since. I got he another man who she bonded with but it just wasn't the same. Around Christmas last year she began eating only sporadically every 3 days or so and then only very small amounts. It was like she was just fed up and had enough. She basically never ate for the last 10 weeks just sulked on the bottom, it was heartbreaking to watch. Over the last year I treated her for bloat at least 5 times with a course of Met in case she was 'ill' but I knew she was 'doing it on purpose'. I also tried anti-bacterial meds to no avail just to feel like I was 'doing something', I tried all her favourite foods plus appetite enhancers(galic etc) but I couldn't get her to even try anything. Last night she took a turn for the worse her breathing got more laboured and she was disorientated, I found her dead after work tonight. To say I'm gutted is an understatement, feel like I've lost a friend....hope her mate is waiting for her somewhere and they can go back to arguing like they always did.....
The 255gal tank seems very empty without you......RIP
Just need to vent a little, wife just said "You knew it was going to happen...she was old......" man it hurts.....

That's a tough loss to take, I know we become bonded to some of these fish after all the work we put into keeping them. Your favorite is your favorite and it's rough to see them go. I'm Sorry I hope you find somthing to fill the tank and the void.

Sorry for your loss. I would be very disappointed if I lost my baby fish too.

i am so sorry for your loss... i hope you feel better soon..not easy to go through the loss.... not when you love them like we do... i feel for you..

Quite difficult to look a pics of her over the years yet but here's a couple I had in the computer....

Looking at these I had actually forgot just what a stunner she was... these were from around 4 years ago, she lost so much color during her sulk she was almost unrecognisable....

Here's a very early one just after I got her....
