Id get the water tested just to be safe. Most places will do it free which is a lot cheaper and easier then dealing with the chance of you being wrong about a diagnosis.

Don't take 'normal' for an answer. Get the numbers. Ammonia should be 0, nitrItes should be 0 and nitrAtes should be below 20.

if it's ammonia burn, it's only a matter of time before the other feel the effects too. any of them have white eyes?

Did you fall behind on water changes? Leave left over food?

i doubt its ammonia burn since i practically does 50% instead of 25% water change every week and there's only one other piranha in the same tank with it so they shouldnt have created too much ammonia in such a short time

Chlorine burns too esp. with large water changes if it goes untreated.
