I had to let her go this morning. She had hole in the head parasites starting back in february, after I bought her a brand new 75g all for herself. Long story behind that, but I guess the stress of her living in exile for awhile until we figured out the new tank, and location made the parasites overcome her.

I had to make the decision to go against my prior experiences with medicines and medicated her, a couple times over a 3 month time span. It came down to medicating was her last resort as she was going to die from the parasites as she had lost her appetite and such.

anyways, over the last couple of weeks, her hole in the head had actually started closing up. But, instead over the last couple days she developed dropsy. Her abdomen bloated out tremendously, eyes started bulging alongside, and she was hiding.

this morning she started hemorraging.

I had her for 2+ years...and by far one of my favorites

I am really sorry. I am glad you shared the pics with us. She's probably much more comfortable now.

thanks for the responses, and for reading...

I decided today that I'm going to seek out another FH. However, more to adopt one as most people don't realize what they're getting themselves into when they see that beautiful fish in the store...

I came home from work tonight, turned on all the tanks fish lilghts, got to hers and paused. No pretty girl...we were going to use it as a grow out tank for the more aggressive fish we have (redtail catfish is in there)....believe it or not, but my pretty girl tolerated the redtail catfish and a couple tinfoil barbs.

I think I'm going to break down the tank, get new gravel and such....as this was HER tank, especially for her....what a bummer. I hate meds

I loved her personality too. Such a mean streak when the beauty was so deceiving

I can totally understand how you feel, man..
I lost my favourite & first fh once due to my carelessness..
I can still recall how it came up to the glass as if telling me goodbye before I went to work.. & when I came back, it's laying upside down................
I still miss it badly.. No other fh can replace it IMO, not even an expensive fh..
