RIP pretty girl "spectrum"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree, one doesn't replace the other. I decided I'm not going to pay a lot of money for a new inhabitant for that tank...I only paid $40 for my pretty girl 2 years ago...So, I'm looking more so to adopt one, but it really depends upon the fish as they all have their own unique personality. Gonna keep my eye open for a lost soul out there who needs a new lifelong home.

sucks though when HER tank is still brand new, got it in february, and all the decorations were suited to her. I even got her T5 lights from petsmart as it really brought out her colors opposed to the light that came with the tank (lighting in the pics)....

She also knew the hand that fed her as when I walked in the room, she went nuts doing a show dance for me, even when she had a full belly. Only did it for me...

I've been thinking about rearranging the fish I have now and putting one of them in that tank, but....just isn't the same. It's like I lost all interest in that tank, and we are still using it.

maybe someday my FLS will have some baby FH...or somebody will drop one off again..someday...

I am truely sorry for your loss, I have not owned a FH yet but I know what it is like to
Loose a fish that was more like a family member than a pet, I know its very hard right now but we have to keep moving forward, as some of the other posters above have said It will be impossible to replace her, her memories will be with you forever,

I would suggest that when you are ready for a new pet go to your LFS and if they have them in check their FH's personalities and pick the one that you like the best.

Once again I am so sorry for your loss, RIP "pretty girl"

Thanks for sharing your very touching story bro, i do prepare my self for it...
One of these days, we all got to go.. Best we can do is cherish the moments & try to live a good life & also provide the best we can for our pets..

I totally cleaned out her tank last night. Took out all the decorations, except for a big log that the redtail's using. Took out the gravel as I picked the color to suit her. Changed the filter media as the foam was still stained green from all the meds, did a massive water change hopefully I got most of the old parasite poop out. Ugh. The tank will cycle in due time for the catfish. I'm not worried about that. He's only 4" (but fat).

just a valuable lesson I relearned...how meds will eventually kill the fish. When I was getting the meds from my reliable lfs, i asked her what the side effects were...she said the usual. You never know how it will affect one fish to the next months down the road. Usually liver/kidney failure though. but, I was at my wits end. She was going to die from the infestation going on inside her.....NOTE....I have white stringy poop from various fish in my 265g and 125g too, but nobody's sick from it. Just happened to pick my FH to attack.

I've had various fish over the last 15yrs that I got attached to, still have pics of...but none came close to my pretty girl. I know on the other hand, that she had a great home up to the end, when somebody else just dumped her at my LFS.

what a touching story. i feel you. i have had the same thing happen many times. i had pets that i didn't even think of as pets. they were family. then, eventually, they will die. it really sucks, but we got to move on, even if its tough. i almost started to tear up. =(
