WHen I posted this video a few weeks ago everybody said to get rid of my Bully the Red devil. But I never expected this.I have had him for 3 years and really loved him!

Yesterday I was feeding my Fire eel a worm and he swam into his fake log that is on the right side of the video. Well my red devil wanted the worm too. So he thought he could fit in there with my Fire Eel. Well he got stuck and had the fire eel stuck in there too. After an hour of trying to get him out we finally succeeded. THe Red devil did not look too damaged a few scratches but that was it. I kept the lights off and covered the tank with a blanket to keep it dark in there. To help him not be so stressed.Well I forgot to turn off my timer for the lights and they were on all day. When I got home the red devil looked terrible look at the picture...! I had no choice and I could not let him suffer so I took him out and took his life. Horrible day at my house!!!
It is so sad because my daughter that is 20 months old loves him. and calls him red debil... Did I do the right thing?

Wow...that sucks! Sorry you had to put him down, but it looked like it wouldn't have recovered anyways. :(

could he swim upright and act normal? looks like he's missing part of his mouth, or is it all of it?

He wasn't swimming very good he wanted to go sideways. YEa he was missing ALL of his mouth and almost all of his fins. To go from king to the weak over something like that. I think the pacu knew he was sending the signal of weakness and he took advantage of it.

dude that fish was DONE....it had no mouth.....would you like to live with no mouth? you did the right thing man

heres what i would have done:

isolated him in a seperate tank (if i did have one id run to target and buy a 55 gallon rubbermaid)

maintain temperature at 83F

some salt at 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons ( salt helps with osmoregulation, freshwater fish lose salts when they are stressed)

do melafix and pimafix treatment for about 10 days

try to get him to eat and adjust to his new feeding technique
