Ask people here for advice when it comes to water changes. Im sure theyll be more than happy to help you out. whether your tank is really gross or full of dookie doing a complete 100% clean up of a tank is not common. Moving cichla or any other sensitive fish during water changes isnt fairly common either unless a chemical was introduced into the tank. IMO it's just unnecessary stress thats being added to the fish. However, i think that your water was the main problem since you mentioned how the bass started floating right away after you put him in. i wouldnt really know what happened since i wasnt with you. However, its still mind boggling to see that you managed to grow out your bass without ever having a gravel vac or python since you mustve done a good amount of water changes......anyways, good luck!

sorry for your loss hawaiian. like every1 said, no more 100% water changes and get one python!
