The British record carp has died in recent days, it was spotted struggling on the surface by an angler over the weekend and despite searches it was not seen again, until it was found dead. It peaked at 67lb 14oz

It was a truly awesome fish estimated at being at least 45 years old and is believed to have died from old age, a lot of the remaining big fish that inspired the huge take up in carp fishing through the 80s and 90s are now dead the few remaining where finished off from the extreme winter we had this year.

I never got to fish for this beast but it came out roughly twice a year on a very hard water to fish, people have put in literally years in the effort to catch this fish, one man wrote a book on the six and a half year search to capture it.

As daft as it sound the owners of the fisheries are having a funeral attended by the dedicated few who put in the years a plaque will mark the site.

It does sound silly but the guy who wrote the book spent 50 hours a week for 6 years going after it, two divorces have been registered because this fish as the reason.

Me, I'm just sad to see the last one of the legends go.

There is a video of the record capture which I'll find and post.

RIP the last of the legend carp.:(

Front page of every uk news outlet, a sad day. The last one of the named big carp to die over here. Almost all big fish that were named, throughout the 80s+90s saw a huge upturn in carp fishing in the uk, the older ones, well the bad winter finished them off, most 50+ years, a sad day....

Sad for you guys over there. But I hate carp over here, they become racoon food.
