If it really bothers you why it passed, and you might think it might happen again and you want to prevent it, you CAN have it autopsied.
I know that might just bring up more hurt, but when a big fish goes unexpectedly, sometimes we check why.

i am sorry you lost your sweet puppy... these things should not happen to people who love their dogs..it is very hard to go through and heartbreak...but please when your ready go adopt some little guy that needs someone like you to love him... and he will love you back and help make things better..

Could have been parvovirus. That can take puppies pretty quickly and pit bulls are especially susceptible.

I have to agree with Mrguyperson. Did the puppy get its shots?
