Polypterus senegalusonly get about 12" fully grown if that is small enough for your needs.

Yeah I think that bichirs would just be too big for this ~30 gallons of water. I already have a Cryptoheros cichlid, a real nice specimen, that is attractive and peaceful and might work as a centerpiece. That one would would go well with a shoal of tetras. I'd like to look into options for more unusual shoaling fish too.

I still wonder about catfish too. Cories are a good idea, but I also like the idea of an active Synodontis or something similar that will swim around a lot.

Can anybody recommend a catfish like that, for about 30 gallons of water?

Awesome tank! Never had any luck though in planted ones.

These riparium setups might be somewhat easier than other kinds of planted tanks. For one thing, the emersed plants don't require any extra CO2 injection because they get everything they need from the air. You also don't have to worry about algae growing on the plants.

very nice...I think I'm going to go ahead with this project after I finnish my current one.
I'm going to go with that 46g bow front w/ 66%water 33% space ;) :D

That sounds like a real good plan.

Thanks. Kribs would be great if I go with a West Africa theme.

I have had a few other good cichlid suggestions. I also have some Archocentrus cutteri here that I could use just as well too. I might even combine a single small cichlid or pair as a centerpiece along with the shoal of cats.

I have thought about archers for a brackish riparium. This idea isn't really going that way. I do have some nice brackish plants. Here is black mangrove (Avicennia germinans) in a riparium planter.

This plant grows slowly. I might think about doing a brackish setup, but only after these and the other mangroves that I have have grown in some more. I just have them in growout tanks right now.

How do you get the plants to stay in place? and stay floating and not fall over, it's intriguing me and i would like to try it with a littel 2.5 i have.
