I can use this picture to point out most of the stuff that I put into this tank.
The only real expensive thing here is the Tek Light ($400, with four lamps). I could have gotten along with a more modest fixture because I only ever use two of the lamps. The tank is a regular Aqueon 65 Tall ($150) with the top rim removed. The tank can handle the lack of brace because it is only ~40% full. The stand is DIY with stuff (~$150) that I found at Home Depot and a local lumberyard. The filter is just a cheap ($100) Fluval with a retrofit ($5) so that the intake and return can reach down to the water surface. There's also a heater ($20) and other odds and ends ($50) like the power strip, timer and GFCI. I got the chicken ($2.50) in Mexico during Christmastime. I used hanging and floating riparium planters ($75) to set up the emersed plants (~$50). There are also fish (~$50).
Light intensity depends upon plant selection. I would call that setup shown above a moderate-light tank. It has a little more than 1 watt of T5 HO (with high-quality, polished lamp reflectors) per gallon.
i love planted tanks they add so much more beauty and life to a tank and accent the fish of the and tank and yours are true works of art! I have experimented with it just a little with ok results i guess lol. You have inspired me to try more to make my fish happier and give my mother something better to look at ! Deff go with the cory idea they are amazing little fish that go great in every community tank epsecialy in a speciec tank and with your skill for ripariums it would be beautiful!!!
