Ripsaw Catfish "Oxydoras Niger"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi, I have 2 Niger cats in my 12' oddball community the biggest is around 21/2 feet. They are in with other cats (giraffe, L marmoratus, Lge synos and various plecos) as well as cichlids and a Giant Gourami. They are both v peaceful and vacuum the pellets from the surface when I feed them. They look stunning when adult.

I'd love to see some pics of that tank :)

Niger is actually the fork snout or fossil cat. The true ripsaw is Megaladoras irwini.

Nigers will get well over 3 feet and weight close to 90 lbs if not more. I'd say nothing less than about 5,000 gallons for an adult. They eat almost anything they can get in there mouth, but as long as you get them on prepared foods, they'll live with almost anything.

I'll post some pics of my old ones and single current fish tonight.

Zoodiver, how big is that tank? It looks huuuge. More pics please

is that your tank holy crap you have one sick tank
also how are those turtles doing with those fish

zoodiver are you counting the fish you keep at work or at home? Either way if I took care of them the way you do the ones at your aquarium I would consider them mine too lol. I am so jealous of your job. If you ever need a curator of catfish let me know lol.

will do, love seeing huge amazon fish, especially catfish lol.

Yeah, I don't have anything big enough at home to keep cool fish. My biggest home tank is a 90 gallon Amazon. Got some smaller cichlid tanks and a small salt tank, too. Keeping them at work is easier....use someone elses dime.
