Ripsaws growth?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Let's keep our cool, gentlemen, please. I didn't particularly like the tone/wording in Roger's first post but he is keeping his cool, which me likes tremendously.

3 year old ripsaw should be at least 2' - perhaps it was stunted or underfed. I am not sure now it will reach its full potential - please come back with updates every now and then so we all learn from your experience now! Anyway, 3' takes about 5 years at least in a very good care.

Yes, their care and diet can be quite similar. They love sand and sifting through it.

This is true. I couldn't believe how much sifting they do. I had to remove my fine sand because the tank was always clouded from the pair I have sifting. They are little/big vacuums! Instead of ripsaw they should have been dubbed 'hoover cats'.

Valid point thats pointed on me. Its alittle hard not to get pissed off when your tring to make me look bad. so thanks for the Reply and go trole to getoff somewere else. dont worry about posting back on this thread to releave your self because you know im right, that not everyone can own a pool and your not just ripping on me but everyone else on here. everyone knows your just acting big fish in a little pond.

It was a valid point. Whether or not it was directed at you is debatable but apparently you took it as criticism and you don't have the maturity to defend yourself in a civil manner or accept the criticism if it's valid.

Not everyone can own a pool but anybody can buy fish they can't house long-term and you are a prime example of this.

He wasn't ripping on you or anybody else.

Thank you, Houie. You are very wise. And I wasn't "ripping" on anyone, I was "ripping" on everyone who doesn't think ahead, or only thinks ahead to giving it away when they can no longer house it.

This is a great example of why people need to research very well what they are getting. There is only so many fish that outgrow the tanks of the unprepared that a zoo can take. I always shake my head when I see people on here that are going to "upgrade to a 300 next year". This seems to happen with the fish that won't even fit the upgrade after a while. Best laid plans frequently don't happen.
Let me step down from my soap box now. :)
I agree I dont think you should buy a fish if you cant house it.Even if u plan on upgrading why not just wait till u upgrade then get the fish.Out of everyhting you learn from fish keeping patience is one of the most important things. What if your plan falls through then you are stuck with the fish.Same goes for people who buy a monster fish and say"when It gets to big I will rehome it." Then why bother getting it? If u cant take care of it properly then dont get it.Cause after you grow it out you are going to have a harder time getting rid of it..There are lots of fish I would kill to have. But due to space and lack of funds I cant get a big tank so I guess im SOL when it comes to some of the fish I want. But im ok with that because once I get my big tank and my monster fish it will be alot more rewarding knowing that I can keep them for life and they will be happy.Im sorry I get a little angry when talking about this stuff so I go on a little bit of a rant and I apologize. I would however love to see some pics though.

Funniest thing about pet keeping forums is everyone is a critic. Don't buy a pet if you can't house it properly. Truth is 99.9% if not 100% of people on forums like this alone can't house their pets properly yet they bring this issue up all the time. Disagree anyone? Ok for those that disagree's with what I said here's a question. Do you keep your fish in a tank/pond? If so then you can't properly house a fish. Unless you're housing a fish in a lake, a river, or an ocean you are not properly housing a fish. Simple as that....lol. But as we all know we are all guilty of keeping pets we shouldn't be keeping because none of us can properly house our pets can we. Let's be honest here we cycle the same dam water daily and we call that proper/adequate. Shame on us, 90% of you folks feed pellets and processed food and say it's you're providing a good diet for your pets, what a joke. Come on now let's keep it real, take a look at choself before you rip on anyone. Doesn't matter who the bashing is intended for because none of us is in no position to be lecturing anyone else about proper pet housing. Stick to the subject. Every thread is tainted with stupid tank setup bashing it gets very annoying. Lastly I'd like to make an assumption or prediction. People will start bashing or lecturing me right about now. .....LOL.

Mine are growing pretty fast. I got 2 oxys on November 20th they were 7". They are 11" today (just measured). So about 1" per month growth. I have them in a 210 gallon and feed them earthworm pellets by the handful, frequent 70-80% water changes.

image.jpg This is a pic of the tank. He's under the driftwood but he has more room than it sounded. He's maybe 2 or3 inches larger than the tiger fish in the pic. You guys can say what you want but if I felt like he dosent have the room then I wouldn't have him. Being 18 and not having my own house I do the best that I can work with. It's sad to see how this tread ended up, a b*tching match. I posted this to get some friendly replays. Could someone please put this thread to rest and close it. Thank you.

I think your getting too upset.

I think those who feel it's necessary to constantly post this or that fish gets big are well intentioned. Although I do find it annoying because they are just messing up threads stating the obvious. It is called MONSTERFISHKEEPERS after all. If it was TinyTetraKeepers.com I would undestand.
