Rivermuds Test Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. I have a feeling I will have to change the screen on the intakes. Just to small of an area. I think i might try one of those flex screens over the entrance, much larger surface area and less chance for clogging.

i've had good luck using pvc shower drain fittings. shaped like a funnel comes with a drilled metal insert for the screen. just a thought.

Today is fill day. Not much excitement beyond that, waiting for payday to buy more supplies. Been hoping for inspiration from teh thread for the net part of the project. Will keep everyone updated on the fill.

:( Bad News... :irked:

For the NAYSAYERS!!!! :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

She holds water beauifully! The overflow works like a charm and it's dead quiet... well as far as I can tell with water hitting the ground from the downpipe. I'll have pictures later, gotta go buy batteries for the camera lol.

I filled and tested it today for quite awhile. She holds water great. I have issues with the overflow though. It doesn't flow enough water. Too small of pipes and bulkheads. It only flows about 130-150 gph. Not the greatest. I have a few new ideas for larger ones. I suppose I could also simply make 2 more overflows and bump it up a bit but even 260-300 isn't really prime. Around 3-4 times turnover per hour at full flow. I've got a half inch bottleneck on the bulkhead. They make a larger size bulkhead similar to what I am using, it's an inch I believe. I am also going to move up to 1.5 inch pipe from 3/4. I ought to have more than enough flow then. Unless of course you all think I can get by with this setup at this flow. With a good wet dry it may work right? I'd like to not tears it all up and redo if possible. Of course I could also try and use this with an algae scrubber/wet dry, that would be about the ideal flow rate I am guessing.

Regardless, here is the tank in action.

Fill height at max flow. I am guessing that I'll be roughly 90-93 gallons in the tank and full flow height.
