I found a good deal on an r/o unit locally. I want to do a drip system on my tank but of course with an r/o Id spend a fortune on buffer for doing 50+ gallons a day.

Would it work if I dripped r/o and regular tap at a 1:1 ratio? I was think 1gph each. Should my water stay pretty constant? BTW my local tap has a pH of around 7.6-7.8 and is pretty hard with alot buffering capacity.

I'm looking into the dosematics for drip and using prime.....r/o will waste too much water.....

at 1:1 ratio just do sediment and carbon blocks..... and not waste the extra water....

Why do you want to use the RO water?

Are there some other tankmates that would be happier with the softer water?

I think it is too dangerous. Rays are great in pH up above 8 (mine bred at 8.2) and you do not risk the pH bounce.

Just do a tap water drip.

ya, i would just do a water line with a few filters

I was going to use the r/o just to soften and lower the pH a bit. I know that rays can handle hard and alkaline water as long as it is constant. I just figured since Im putting a serious effort into breeding that softer more neutral water would be best.

My main concern like I said is possible fluctuations.

you need to figure ro rating at 77 degres f if you go cold it will cuase the membrane to constrict.that will take u from a 1:4 to about a 1:6 or up ran one for years on reef winter stinks very hot out works great.i run a drip with inline filters and a habamist with dechlor that turns on what you chose never a problem.ro needs to be rebuilt before use becuase you strip it the ph can go where ever.if you add buffers to your system figuer most elements should only move a point or two a day.if you go inline filters given your chloramines are low or not there you would be better.the water in your tank ages and the ph drops it would prob hold at 7-7.2 i did alot of home work on this dont try to create the amazon you cant keep it the same but the fish will do better if you let them acclimate to you water

What are you guys using for filters in the water line? Can anybody provide links so I can see exactly what it is I need to get?
