Ive loved these fish soo long and if i can get this 90g on craigslist i would stock them 1st. So where would i get rock bass? there not stocked in any local lakes i know of

for the most part all that ive had the rockbass will pick out a territory and defend it like a breeding cichlid would do beating the crap out everything that comes neer.. ive kept one in a 55 with about 5-7 yellow perch bigger then it and it beat the hell out of all of them, but i also had one that was kept in a 100g community (no decor) of LMB, cichla, catfish, cihlids, etc with no problems (until it got eaten) i had kept the same one in a 20g(with decor) when it was smaller with 3 lmb no problems. i think it may have something to do with male/female one being terribly aggresive and one not so much.. youre takeing the chance of having to keep one single not very active fish in a tank by itself, or you might get lucky and get one thats not insane. they would be cool to breed though. if you can get yellow perch you could try those, neat looking with good colors and stay small. im not sure if they school when larger but mine were small and schooled together.

Im pretty sure hes a rock bass we dont have warmouth here he moved around quite a bit and as I said alot of personality he begged for food and knew me from other people not a shy fish at all

If that is the case, then you caught the first one. But, I know warmouth are in WI and that is what you have/had.

Google for some pics and you will see the differences.

And for clarity, the OP is referring to Ambloplites rupestris, right?

I agree with Drewish, its definitely not a rock bass. Appears to be a warmouth. I will disagree with Drewish about where rock bass live however. I have caught them in plenty of lakes.

This is my rock bass, quite different from the fish you posted. For starters notice the red eye, a trait well associated with rock bass.
