Rock question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just got a bunch of rocks from a local landscape company they had huge rocks and little rocks and every size between. They sell for much cheaper than any fish shop and had quite a few different types to choose from as well. Added bonus you can set up the rocks like model as if they were in your aquarium and choose specific ones that fit well together while youre out there before you buy them to be sure they will be a good fit for your tank.

How do I test for that?

API also sells the GH (hardness) and KH (alkalinity) test kits separately so those would be an option.

There is no way of knowing whether the pH will actually change unless you do a test with the bucket and rock method.

Which Central American cichlids are you keeping? There are a few great articles in that cichlid forum describing water parameters for Centrals, some are geared toward wild caught fish and others for aquarium strain.

Jack Dempsey, Firemouth, green Texas, Salvini, Jaguar. Then on the not Central American I have convicts, giant danios and a bn Pleco

So I have decided to take this route instead. You think these blocks would mess up the water parameters?

Nope central, nasty little buggers too. My female mauled a geo about 3x her size last night. Poor bugger was missing a big chunk of its jaw hadda put it down.

Are they composite rocks? As in pressed? There's a good chance they are safe, but I cant read the tag to look up the specs online

I hear they can be rough. All the fish I have are around 2-3”. Except for the JD, he is probably between 4-5”. The 2 convicts I have are the smallest of the tank.

Smallest won't matter much they'll keep right up you have nastier fish anyway with the salvini and Texas. Just know that if opposite genders ALL of your cichlids can and will readily hybridize
