the filter may be a problem but it says it is made for 150 gallon aquariums its a whisper power filter i am thinking about gettin another good filter to put in too any recomendations,

You should look at canister filters. I've always used them for my turtle tanks and they work great. Wet/Dry filters can work pretty well too. I have a Rena Filstar XP for filtration in my musk turtle tub and it does a good job. But keep in mind I do a large water change almost everyday because I have a dirty pleco in there too.

If she's taking up too much of your time to take care of the turtle, you need to get rid of one of them (turt or gf). I can do water changes/gravel vacs/refills on all my tanks in an hour. (55 with 3 turtles, 40 with 1 turtle, 55 with snapper).

That's a little extreme, but I know what I'd choose *cough*turtle*cough*

You're 14. You really won't have that much school work. If your gf is chewing up all your time and not leaving you enough time to look after your pets, cool it. That's far too much time to spend together, not meaning to throw relationship advice about, but you'll just end up annoying each other, or getting bored.

Anyway, get rid of the rocks if you want, my RES is in a bare bottom tank, and perfectly happy.

I just remember what I was like at 14. Once a girl came into the picture, everything else took a back seat until the next gf-less time. I just hate to think of a turtle getting neglected over a gf.

I had almost the same size tank for 3 turts (2 WPaint, 1SPaint). I had the biggish river rocks which sounds like what you've got. Anyway how I set it up was a milkcrate on its end with a couple flat slate pieces on top for basking, which worked well because the turtles could swim underneath them. I used a fluval 404 canister and it kept the tank clean as can be. I did do water changes just because I think it's good for them, I used a python syphon...I'd stir the rocks around a bit to free up any crap between/under them, and just vac it all out with the python. Took an hour tops. I think the fluval pushes around 350gph and I had the tank maybe 2/3 full, so I was turning it over 8x.

But anyway, you can do without the rocks if you want, I doubt he'll mind, though my turts seemed to like digging around in them & moving them around.
