why would a 99% rejection rate be more desireable than anything lower? I could be completely wrong here but wouldnt that mean you are wasting TONS of water. Does a 99% rejection mean for every gallon of filtered water that you waste 99 gallons?

Rejection rate is in terms of TDS, not gallons of water.

99% rejection means that a tap water TDS of 100 would be reduced to 1. More or less...

rejection rate by the membrane just confirms the removal of impurities passing through the membrane.. its affected by type of membrane, water temp, water pressure ..a 99% rejection rate means your removing approx 99% of the impurities. .

waste waste water to purity ratio is usually 4:1 in most units ;meaning 4 gallons of waste water to purify 1 gal of purified water. a good unit Ive seen with a pressure pump produces 1:1 ....minimal waste ...my two cents for FW water system a DI unit is not needed unless you have a specific contaminate your trying to remove that passes through the membrane. .

This system here is under $200 it appears and states rates of 1-2 to 1-3 of usable to waste depending on options.

Its one i've been considering buying for a while.

I actually have Water Generals RD 102. I got it off of somebody though so I didn't know much about it and once I checked their website I was confused about the 99% rejection statistic. Thanks for all the help though!

oh nice. Thats like 140 $ system if all the media is usable.

I had to replace all the filters and ri resin. But I guess $75 for the replcement filters isn't bad for a new system.
