How do you mean?

Too many variables to make the blanket statement "you can't use that water in an aquarium without first adding some minerals and alkalinity back to it.".. variables such as rejection rate, TDS reading of :Tap, Ro output and aquarium....targeted tank TDS , fish kept, frequency and size of water changes, tank size etc..

I have heard from one of the guys at my LFS, who is a reefer, that it is possible to buy two RO units and somehow link them together to greatly reduce the waste water that goes out unused.

You could probably use the waste water to feed the other one. Will probably work quite well but if the TDS in the reject water is higher it may lead to a slightly higher leftover TDS? Just speculating here :)

I have noticed that the waste water has a much higher tds than the tap water going into the system. I would assume it could work but with the higher tds going into the second unit I would assume it would wear out the filters much quicker

Use the waste water as an excuse to set up an old world cichlid or CA cichlid bio specific tank
My Frontosa's bred tin RO waste water.. .. works great for watering garden too.. regarding your question, you can get increased through put just by upping your pressure..

My two cents for FW just bypass the membrane unless your trying to breed wild low TDS fish.
zero waste
