Caught a couple weeks ago as a shoal of half dozen, all in the same net cast, in the Rio Uni a small stream in Panama.
The pH was about 8, undetectable nitrate, the river only about 10 ft wide, and quite shallow.

I had a group of Charax gibbosus once, they remind me very of of those.
Scale eaters who didn't even play well with each other... I hope that yours behave better!
The biggest problem with these, is that they (along with most Characins) are carriers of Lernaea parasites (anchors worms)
and I did not quarentine them long enough, causing (what I believe to be) a parasiteepidemic in the main tank, that eventually spread to all tank residents.
And where the Lernaea attached, secondary infection followed.
