Hmm....not sure what happened to the introductory thread. I thought one was supposed to have been posted from my registration. Oh well. I can do it again. :-D

I'm a photography greenie in just about every form....really. I only stumbled across this site as I noticed a link to it by paradise on cichlid-forum and figured, "Why not?"....maybe I'll actually learn something.

I have a simple 2.0MP digital camera that was given to my wife and I as a Christmas gift a year or two ago. It's an Olympus D-230. Don't laugh....it's paid for....and I really don't know any better.

Let's make a deal.....if you'll excuse the fact that I have no clue why some of my pics turn out okay and some turn out like they'd been used to wipe farmer Johnson's shoes after cleaning out the horse barn.....I'll just play dumb and continue to appreciate the hard work, the effort, and the obvious "joy" you have in creating this art we call photos.....okay.....maybe I won't be playing so much, but we can pretend. Right? :-D

Let's hope I can actually carve a sliver of knowledge from this great site....and walk away with feeling proud of a few amateurish photos.

*edited* Had the wrong model number for my camera. Unfortunately, it didn't get any better.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll definitely pick up a few tips and techniques here and there while you're on the site, and as always, please feel free to post your works.

let's squeeze out the best results we can from those 2 million pixels! Sounds a lot when you say it like that, right?

Woah! Two million pixels? Holy cow! When you say it like that, it sounds like I've got something special. This is where I continue to play dumb and pretend that I don't really need to buy anything bigger or better. I'm lying to myself, but don't tell me 'til tomorrow. Otherwise, I'll start checking the classifieds (not that I haven't already). :-D

Welcome to the forum Craiger. You are about to take a journey on a learning curve and we will do our best to reduce the slope. :)

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. I'm beginning to learn a few things in this long process.....one of them being the fact that I'm already wanting better equipment. Okay, who told me? :-/

I'm actually at home today with some sort of stomach virus. Don't worry, I don't think you'll catch it from reading my post. But if you need a reason to stay home tomorrow, you're more than welcome to use it. :-D

Anyway, perhaps I can start my learning process by having you tell me what this means (it's right under the lens on my camera): AF 5.5mm 1:2.8

In the meantime, I'm trying to locate the manual to this thing. Perhaps I should actually read it a bit.
