Anyway, perhaps I can start my learning process by having you tell me what this means (it's right under the lens on my camera): AF 5.5mm 1:2.8

All that it means is that the lens is an autofocus (AF) 5.5mm and that it's maximum aperture is 2.8 (the largest aperture that it's capable of). At least that's how I read it.

Okay, thanks. I found the manual online and have been reading up on this simple digi-cam. I hope I can learn a few things before I move up to something better.....gotta justify the need to my boss, ya know.
