It's not just that they can be polluted, it's that they can be very polluted and it won't kill them. You're right though, chances are you could eat isopods every day and there would be a very good chance you'd do great. I'm not going to feed my fish the isopods from around my house because I know my house is painted with lead based paint.

when I was keeping sunfish, we put centepieds and rollie pollies, and grasshoppers anything really. they all were eaten
Here in NC wood lice, Rollie pol lies, come in two species, one is native. It is soft and white or pink in color and not very common. the other is a European wood lice, it is hard and rolls up into balls. I have feed them to my baby turtles for many years with no ill effects and fish will eat them as well. i have thought about trying to grow the native ones. has any tried the native species?
