I would say remove the gravel from the bottom so it doesn't hold any extra waste you could miss while you gravel vac and take out most the rock work just make a couple of caves for them. Release the small fish. Do 50-75% water changes daily and do not put a heater in the tank.

wtf, im surprised they are still even alive, the rosy reds i get always die off within a few days.

You would be surprised what fish can live through, especially goldfish and rosy reds. At my fish market some of the fish are in water so brown and full of junk its incredible, but they pull through. Overall those fish will be fine as long as they are fed and have oxygen.

There are many people that use rubbermaid totes in breeding setups, or for holding fish. I don't think moving them to your smaller 10 gallon would make any better sense. They'll be fine in there as long as you are providing the care they need (& it seems like you are). You can pull that rock work out like others suggested for more space and ease of cleaning. But they can live in there no worries, until you get your pond. Personally, I think the big daily water changes are overkill, goldfish don't require stringently sanitary conditions. Just cut back to feeding once a day and a water change or 2 a week.

Not really surprising...these minnows and goldfish are super hardy. It is not uncommon for some fishermen keep their bait overcrowded in their holding tanks and they can literally live forever. But that is with proper care and good management.

If you have any predator fish, feed thos pond fish your roomate left to them.....LOL..........................A 200g pond bought just for those fish is a waste...........

I know plenty of pond owners that has a small pond has red rosies and common goldfish...but I guess I can let them know that it's a waste.

After getting to know these guys they are growing on me. I need my first indoor pond anyway do here's a start. But will rosy reds breed in such large shoals in such a small setup?

It's possible but the fry survivability in that setting isn't very good.

i think you worrying a little too much. I would donate them to a LFS. Or if you want to keep just do weekly WC and maybe feed 2 times a week.
