So, for the past 5 months, since about a month after I got a cavity filled, one of my teeth has been very sensitive. For about the past two months, it has become very soar and very painful, sometime I could barely stand it hurt so much. So I went to the doctors, and xray, and dentist medications, antibiotics, and blah blah blah, turns out I have to get a root canal in a few weeks.

So, what I am hearing is that root canals are the most painful things to go through, or they are done very comfortably and I dont know who to trust. So I was just wondering if anyone out there has had them done, and if so, does it hurt??

Had a couple done. If you have a good dentist you won't feel a thing. I hate dentists, but after the last experience I am not worried about going back. The anticipation and the stories I had heard were the worst part. Good luck.

The only thing that sucks about it is how long you have to keep your mouth open. I didn't feel a thing during the procedure. Afterwards, I was pretty sore, but nowhere near as sore as after stingray stinger removal or 4 wisdom teeth out. Don't worry, it's a piece of cake. If you don't get the good pain meds from the dentist, ibuprofin is best for tooth pain, 800mg every 6-8 hours.

It doesn't hurt during the operation since you get all numbed up. It'll start to hurt when it starts to wear off. It's usually just soreness more than anything.

They're not bad. I've heard they're horrible if you have an absess and the doctor doesn't prescribe meds for the infection before doing the surgery. As long as he's good and gets the infection down before he goes in you won't feel much except for the needle. Now have your tooth pulled with no gas. That sucks.

I do have meds now for the infection. And since the pain has been so bad, he gave me a new and more powerful prescription of pain-meds along with a refill for it, although the pain has been good lately, knock on wood. I do like my dentist along with all the assistants there, they are very nice, so do trust them.

I have also had my 4 wisdoms out, I did get put under but it hurt like hell after for like a week. I am just sick of my mouth. I had to get baby teeth pulled, a cyst removed from my gums, multiple cavities, braces on for 2 years on then off for a year then on for 2 then off only to have them shift again, and then the wisdom teeth out, and now at the ripe age of 18 I need a root canal... by 30 I can see myself with a full set of dentures.
