i currently have a large brackish tank and have always been interested in rope fish so i was wondering if rope fish could live in a brack tank of about 1.006.

That should be fine, I don't think they tolerate higher levels of brackish water all that well though. With most freshwater/brackish fish, they tend to live in freshwater but venture out into brackish waters occasionally. It's best to fluctuate the salinity every once in a while, since that's what the fish do in the wild.
I am not sure where I picked it up - I sort of keep a running list of fish in my head that I've heard, somewhere, can be kept in BW - but I'm fairly certain the internets once told me that they do fine in low end brackish tanks. I recall that at one point I was considering getting one for my tank, so I must have believed the source(s) to be credible.
they are freshwater fish tolerant of brackish waters so be careful with the salinity. I would indeed fluxuate it from 1.005sg and down to like 1.002sg and dont go over 1.005sg. Ph would be best around 7.6-8.0, try to stay away from the 8.2-8.5 range and the water being moderatly hard just not super hard. So dont use argonite sand as a substrate or alot of dead corals in the tank. Just freshwater substrates and your water will be buffed by the salts you add to make your tap brackish.
