Rope Fish keepers?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ropes are awesome, I'd get a nice group of them, and then well....idk what else you're into.

Personally I'd make it a planted tank since thats how I was keeping mine, I gotta get my planted game back on soon. If you did that there are a ton of really cool colorful things that could work, its all about what you're into.

I picked up a nice 11" rope fish from the LFS, I had one years ago that escaped through my HOB's cut out. Since my current tank is sealed, hopefully this guy will remain in the tank.

I've not kept ropes, but have had eels climb the waterfall and live in a HOB for months. Also, if you have an FX 5/6 it turns off each day for 2 minutes to purge air from the system. I've had eels swim up the output during the 2 min shutdown. Had to construct a spray bar to prevent this.

Food for thought if you run a similar filter.

Yep, I lost my 16" Fire Eel to an AC110, it would hide in the filter, one day he didn't make it back to the tank. A few years later I lost my new 8" fire eel to my FX5, just as you stated. I did not even think about the rope fish trying to swim up the FX5.

Yep, outlet. Amazing that during the daily 2 min shutdown they find their way in!

Is that the fire eels tail sticking out?

Yea, this fire eel was around 8". I have no luck with fire eels, I'd love to have one but something out of the ordinary always happens. I gave up lol
