Rope Fish Q:

My LFS has a rope fish with fungus on his nose. It is undergoing treatment and won't be up for sale until it gets better. Will a rope fish do well with other bichirs? I have three senegals right now and was thinking of adding something different to the tank. Also what size tank should a rope fish have? How long will they get? And do they have personality like other bichirs?

One of the onlne forums says they get 36" but the biggest I've ever seen is more like 16-18" and close to a nickel in diameter. It's NOT a bichir. Temperment about the same as a senegal or palmus. Not as agressive as most of the others. They're available seasonally from Africa. They come in whenever you start to see the other African oddballs. Make sure you see it eat before you buy it IF you decide you want it. Ask how long they've had it, what does it eat? can I see it eat? Once it gets used to your tank it'll eat anything that fits in it's mouth, just like your bichirs. Dan

i keep a ropefish with a senegal and a delhezi and they all get along fine

i have 3 ropefish and a senegal and all get along great. make sure the tank is secure, they are great escapers.
