my friends rope sometimes hides in his driftwood all good for a couple of days, he just chills in there. when he feels like it, he swims alot and is very active. he comes out sometimes for food and he eats shrimp and pellets. rope fish get a piece of food and it last them a couple of days they dont really munch out too much. the rope might also be on a hunger strike if he is new to the tank. keep doing what your doing, its great just watch out your rope can jump out through small holes or if you have big fish they might try to slurp him up like a noodle.

Yep, I'm aware of their Houdini-like escape skills. Thanks for your advice.

That's a reasonable and possibly-valid point. Thanks.

I completely agreed with this, if your fish is staying in his hole and not searching for food, then its probably getting its fill when the lights are off.

get more ropes they do better n groups of 3 or more i got 6 they out all the time and eat all kinda stuff now they beat my bichirs 2 the food search my threads 4 pics oh and mine eat wit the light on daily jus gota train them

my 2nd or 3rd rope i got i couldnt find after the first day, i assumed he jumped out n became a dog treat, after a MONTH! i realized that he got in the intake tube from my hob filter( must have fallen of n he slipped in before i fixed it, so a month later i was switching to a wet/dry and out plops a shrunken rope! i was like holy s**t! he was still healthy though n eats great, pretty sure hes totally blind though

theyll get more social if you have more, i have 7 and they rarely hide, when i had 1 or two they hid alot during the day then came out at night, now they are almost always out, when they do "hide" they just pile up on 1 another, i also noticed the contrary to what ive read they seem to LOVE a stronger current in the tank

The answer to increasing ropefish socializing and encouraging them to come out of hiding and be seen more, might just be in keeping them in groups. Thanks for all of your great responses.
