I went and got 3 Rope fish today. I really like these guys but the lfs guy was say that these fish can get out of the tank and live for up to a mounth. Does ant one have this happen to them? is that statment valid at all?

Live for a month, out of water? No way . . . He's exagerating in a big way . . . I agree that they are escape artists.
They can't. They could survive out of water longer than most other fish, but not more than a few hours. Really good fish, I've had mine for a few years now and never run into any problems. Make sure you have a well-sealed lid on your tank though, they definitely are escape artists. K sweet thanx for that info. I have a bisher as well they dont escape like the rope fish do they?
I have 3 also added the new ones 3 days ago. The first one had trouble finding food in the tank. Maybe the current was moving the scent too much. So I started dropping the food(waxworms, mealworms etc...) in one corner of the tank. Once the ropefish discovered this, that is the only place it will eat. It doesn't care that the food is on top in it's face, it won't eat it. The new ropefish are still adjusting. I have heard that ropefish will eat fish, mine have yet to do it. Only wants insects. I had to leave the lid on the tank up because the new filter keeps it from closing. So far, no dead ropefish. I am deciding on another filter, so I don't want to cut holes in the plastic part of lid. Make sure you have places for your fish to hide under. Trust me, your new pets will come out to see you voluntarily. ENJOY!!! I have read that if your ropefish do get out, always catch them with a wet net, or it will get a fungus and they later die.
