Hello,

I have been asking everyone that I could this question at other forums, but I have yet to get a straight answer (except from one other forum, but I would still like the input). My question is: If I were to put a Ropefish & Senegal Bichir in the same tank (a 75 Gallon), should one go in before the other? (Keep in mind, this is after I finish cycling the tank). Because I know that both tend to eat anything that can fit in their mouths. Would I have to have both in at the same time while they were small? One at a time, letting the one grow to full size and then the other in a "out-grow" tank? Or would I be better off in picking one of the two species listed, and finding another species that could go better with one another?

Thank you,

Shane, :headbang2

I'm here too lol-The order in which they go into the matters not.

Odds are you probably won't find a real small ropefish.so get the rope add it to the 75, get the senegal and grow it out before adding it-Anne

Ah, alright. And yes, this does indeed go with the whole "You are everywhere, aren't you?" feel, huh? LoL, but as I said before, you are great help, so I'm not complaining!
I will definatly go with your advice!

Thanks,

Shane, :woot:

go with the advice of anne, most of the ropefish being sold are longer so it doesn't matter, just make sure your senegal is big enough not to be eaten

You know, I've been trying to find a straight answer to this question for so long. I think that I've finally gotten it too! Thank you so much Anne!
So then it's in stone, I'll buy the Ropefish first, then wait until I find a Senegal big enough not to be eaten.

Thank you so much!

rope fish have pretty small mouths so most of the sengals i see around here would easily be able to goto together. i hade a ropefish with smaller kuhli loachs, blue ram, some danios, and other larger fish and never had a problem but i dont know if i was just lucky.

Wow, is that right?
Now that is a pretty comforting thing to know...(that Ropefish have pretty small mouths). I'll most likely still go along with the plan of the Ropefish first, and then get the Senegal and let him grow up a little in another "grow-out" tank. Or do you mean that they could easily go together right away? Without much of any wait? Get back to me! :woot:

Thanks!

Shane,

most senegals you see for sale at 2-3'' thats a snack to a rope,As most ropes I've seen are 9 inches+at stores.Grow the senegal ou before adding -Anne

both fish will tend to try and eat anything that can fit into their mouths. If they are roughly the same size, it won't matter- either way or both at the same time. Rope fish do well with other ropefish, and enjoy the company- i've had a ropefish and bichir together, and they used to hang out all the time. same with a fire eel-they always curled up together.
