and on the compatibility, they will be fine w/ whatever cant fit into their mouth but i have read that they dont do well defending themselves or competing for food.

Yeah, they're pretty much wimps when it comes to defending themselves - you could try having a bunch of hidding places for it, but I wouldn't chance it with a jardini though
